In 2008 and 2010, TANZLABOR _21 and Künstlerhaus Mousonturm will carry out an International Summer Lab for students and professional artists. The first lab will take place from July 31st until August 12th, 2008. The lab brings together the three key aspects of TANZLABOR_21's work: dance education, the conjunction of practice and theory, outreach and mediation.
The summer lab is a communicative forum between practice and theoretical reflection of contemporary art forms. The summer lab's focus lies on contemporary dance. Like almost no other art form, contemporary dance opens up inter- and transdisciplinary collaborations on the borderlines of dance, performance and installation.
The summer lab is specifically directed at students of the Hessian Theatre Academy (HTA). The laboratory is also open for international students and young artists and in particular for participants of Tanzplan Deutschland projects in other cities. The summer lab is the first cooperation between all Hessian Theatre Academy programs - dance and dance pedagogy, acting, stage direction, applied theatre studies and dramaturgy, singing, set design and theatre and orchestra management - as part of a concerted laboratory for practice and theory. In each of the four nine-day long workshops, two artists/researchers will set the context and frame of the workshop and create spaces for interdisciplinary work processes and exchange. Each workshop is co-taught by an artist and a theorist. In project-based work, outstanding personalities of the international dance scene will place a particular focus on conveying their experience of artistic processes. Why do we work in what way and with what materials, with what team and which methodology?
The public part of the summer lab, the international performance programme at Künstlerhaus Mousonturm and Jahrhunderthalle, is offered to the lab participants as well as to dance enthusiastic regional and international audiences.
